Why Am I Not Receiving Direct Message Emails?

DM emails are delayed 15 minutes and cancel if you read the message first. Here's how to troubleshoot.

DM email alerts fire 15 minutes after someone messages you — but only under specific conditions. If they're not coming, one of a few things is usually the cause.

How DM emails actually work

  1. A member sends you a DM.
  2. The system schedules an email alert for 15 minutes later.
  3. If you read the message in the chamber app during that 15-minute window, the email is cancelled automatically.
  4. If the message is still unread at the 15-minute mark, the email sends.

This avoids an inbox flood for anyone who's active in the app and only emails when you actually miss a message.

Troubleshooting: no DM emails coming in

Check your preference.

  1. Open Notification Settings.
  2. Make sure the Direct Messages toggle is ON.
  3. This auto-saves — no Save button to click.

Check you're actually missing them in-app.

If you always read DMs before 15 minutes pass (because you're signed in and the in-app notification grabs your attention), the cancellation logic will prevent the email. That's working as intended.

Check your inbox & spam.

  1. Search for sender domain signalhillchamber.org or our sending domain.
  2. Move any found emails out of spam. Add the sender to your contacts so future emails land in the inbox.
  3. If your workplace filters outside email, ask IT to allowlist our sending domain.

Group chats won't email at all.

Email alerts only fire for 1-on-1 DMs. If the messages are in a group thread, no email is expected.
